bong: “Valerie Plame was covert. Valerie Plame had served our country covertly within the last five year [sic] prior to the disclosure of her identity. To suggest otherwise today, when the facts are now beyond dispute, is that extraordinary combination of delusion and dishonesty that will be seen by history as the darkest side of national security disasters of the Bush years.”

U.S. DOS: Washington — Top U.S. defense and diplomatic officials again invited Russian participation in a newly developed air defense system in Europe designed as a safeguard against ballistic missile attacks from potential threats in East Asia and the Middle East.

Air Force Times:  “The United States also looks forward to further discussions with the Russian Federation on bilateral cooperation and joint activity in this important field, including the potential sharing of technology and the development of compatible systems,” Ambassador Victoria Nuland said in a statement.

“Possible areas of partnership with Russia could include research and development of missile defense systems, sharing of early warning data, and exercises between our forces,” she added.

Andrew Cohen pins the Homer Simpson defense on Alberto Gon(e)zales

“You just cannot make this stuff up. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales’ former chief of staff, D. Kyle Sampson, spends much of his Thursday deflating his former boss’ story about the eight fired U.S. Attorneys and how does the Attorney General respond? By issuing a written statement late in the day that essentially says this: Yes, Sampson may have been keeping me in the loop on the firings after all but I wasn’t really paying attention (“never focused” was the exact phrase) to what he was saying.” [more at Bench Conference (WaPo)]
